Understanding Corns and Calluses
Corns and calluses are thickened areas of skin that develop in response to repeated friction or pressure. They typically form on the feet, especially on the toes, sides of the feet, and heels, although they can also occur on the hands or other areas subjected to repetitive stress. Here's more about them:
- Corns are small, round areas of thickened skin that usually develop on the tops or sides of toes. They can be hard or soft.
- Hard corns have a dense core and often develop on areas of pressure or friction, such as the tops of toes where they rub against shoes.
- Soft corns are moist and often develop between the toes, where the skin is moist from sweat.
- Corns can be painful, especially when pressed or rubbed.
